Course on working with CF-NetCDF files using Python

By lukem |

Want to learn how to work with NetCDF files? Know a bit of Python? Maybe this tutorial series can help you.

https://lhmarsden.github.io/NetCDF_in_Python_from_beginner_to_pro/

This course has been designed to help you understand NetCDF files, get data out of them and create your own NetCDF files. You will learn how to plot data from NetCDF files, convert data to CSV, loop through a THREDDS catalogue and access data over the internet using OPeNDAP.

Planned maintenance

By laraf |

On January 18th a brief unresponsiveness of the site could occur due to maintenance work on the network infrastructure.

Additionally, on January 23rd and January 24th, as well as on February 6th and February 7th a planned maintenance will take place on the data storage platforms at MET Norway. Some data findable through the search interface will not be accessible during this period.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Major changes in the metadata catalogue

By laraf |

On Monday 20th of March the SolR back-end for the metadata catalogue of the data portal will be changed.

Some major modifications will be present, including changes of metadata identifiers for some of the records.

A namespace prefix no.met.adc for all records managed by the Arctic Data Centre (adc.met.no) is now added.

Some records might be missing at the beginning, but we are working on filling these gaps.

New system release

By steingod |

All front and back ends are now upgraded. Backends are running in a mix of virtual machines, containers and in a HPC system. The data portal software is also upgraded and some changes are found in the interfaces for search and results tabulation. Automatic visualisation of datasets supported through OGC WMS and OPeNDAP (requires data as CF-NetCDF according to a profile of the discrete sampling geometries specification of CF) has also been updated. Further refinement of this setup as well as development of improved documentation is in progress.

Validation of NetCDF/CF files

By steingod |

A file conformance checker for NetCDF files following the Climate and Forecast convention and the Attribute Convention for Data Discovery is available in the GCW Data Portal. The first convention ensures that data are supported by sufficient use metadata (standardised variable descriptions, units, missing values etc) to properly understand the data.
