The Data Access Portal has information in 3 columns. An outline of the content in these columns is provided above. When first entering the search interface, all potential datasets are listed. Datasets are indicated in the map and results tabulation elements which are located in the middle column. The order of results can be modified using the "Sort by" option in the left column. On top of this column is normally relevant guidance information to user presented as collapsible elements.
If the user want to refine the search, this can be done by constraining the bounding box search. This is done in the map - the listing of datasets is automatically updated. Date constraints can be added in the left column. For these to take effect, the user has to push the button marked search. In the left column it is also possible to specific text elements to search for in the datasets. Again pushing the button marked "Search" is necessary for these to take action. Complex search patterns can be constructed by changing the operators used in the text field and prefixing words with '+' and '-' to indicate whether they have to be present or should not be present in the results.
Other elements indicated in the left and right columns are facet searches, i.e. these are keywords that are found in the datasets and all datasets that contain these specific keywords in the appropriate metadata elements are listed together. Further refinement can be done using full text, date or bounding box constraints. Individuals, organisations and data centres involved in generating or curating the datasets are listed in the facets in the right column.

Abstract:
Using the British Antarctic Survey''s DeHavilland Dash-7, approximately 10,000 line-km of data were collected from the Black Coast and adjacent Weddell Sea embayment, which is situated ca. 600 km southeast of the airfield at Rothera Station . Flight lines were spaced at 10-km intervals with perpendicular tie lines spaced at 40 km. Where time and fuel allowed, selected areas were infilled at a 5-km line spacing. The marine part of the survey was flown at around less than 1000 m above sea level. We present here the processed line aeromagnetic data acquired using scintrex cesium magnetometers mounted on the BAS aerogeophysical equiped Dash-7.
Data are provided as XYZ ASCII line data.

Abstract:
This dataset includes ~3,000 line km of radio-echo sounding data along the English Coast of western Palmer Land in the Antarctic Peninsula. Data was acquired by the British Antarctic Survey Polarimetric-radar Airborne Science Instrument (PASIN2) ice sounding radar system in the austral summer of 2016/2017. Radar lines collected at ~3-5 km line spacing transect a number of outlet glacier flows, close to the grounding line, where continental ice begins to float.
Data were funded by a BAS National Capability grant.
NOAA/NASA Pathfinder Program, Earth Science Information Partners Program, Earth Observing System Data Information System (NOAA/NASA PATHFINDER, ESIP, EOSDIS)
The Pathfinder Program, sponsored by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), is tasked to produce long-term data sets for global change research. The Special Sensor Microwave/Imager (SSM/I) Pathfinder Level 2 Land Products data set has been generated using the land classification algorithms developed by Neale, and the land surface temperature algorithms developed by McFarland. This data set includes both the land classification and land surface temperature products. The Pathfinder Level 2 Land Products data set is in swath format. Coverage is global land surface, and covers 1 August 1987 through 31 March 1988.
The SSM/I Pathfinder Level 3 Land Products data set has been generated using the Level 2 data described above. The Level 2 data were interpolated to a longitude-latitude grid with a resolution of one degree. For the Benchmark Period, the data were averaged over periods of five days (a pentad) or one month, although, for the land classification product, the most commonly occurring land class (the mode of the distribution within each bin) was chosen as the class for that bin and for the period. The data set, including both pentad and monthly grids, covers 1 August 1987 through 31 December 1988.
As of 26 September 2019, this data set is retired and no longer available for download. This data set was retired because other passive microwave data sets with longer temporal records are available at NSIDC. We recommend <a href="https://nsidc.org/data/amsre">the suite of AMSR-E products available at NSIDC</a> as an alternative.

Abstract:
This dataset consists of a bed DEM and four velocity maps of Kongsvegen, a surge-type glacier in Svalbard. The bed DEM was generated from ground-penetrating radar surveys in spring 2016 and 2018, and the velocity maps span the period Dec 2017 to Feb 2019. The velocity maps show the initial speed-up of the glacier as it transitions from quiescence to surge.
Data acquisition was funded by NERC Urgency Grant NE/R018243/1 REBUS (Resolving Enthalpy Budget to Understand Surges).

Abstract:
This dataset comprises neodymium (Nd) isotopic compositions measured on 145 samples of aragonitic deep-sea corals from the Drake Passage of the Southern Ocean. Most of the samples were previously collected on expeditions NBP0805 and NBP1103 on the RV Nathaniel B. Palmer. The samples include glacial, deglacial and Holocene aged specimens and most are from 0-40 ka BP (thousand years before present) based on uranium-thorium dating. Neodymium isotope analyses were conducted by either thermal ionisation mass spectrometry (TIMS) or multi-collector inductively-coupled plasma mass spectrometry (MC-ICP-MS) in the MAGIC laboratories at Imperial College London by David Wilson, Torben Struve and Tina van de Flierdt. In the modern ocean, dissolved Nd isotopes are a quasi-conservative water mass tracer, while past compositions of seawater are recorded in deep-sea corals. This dataset therefore provides evidence on the proportions of Atlantic versus Pacific waters admixed in the Southern Ocean through time, which places crucial constraints on global deep water chemistry and circulation dynamics during past climate events.
Funding was provided by the NERC grant NE/N001141/1. Related datasets are associated with grant NE/N003861/1. Both grants funded the project "Bridging the Timing Gap: Connecting Late Pleistocene Southern Ocean and Antarctic Climate Records".

Abstract:
We present two new gridded bathymetric compilations of the Orkney Passage, Scotia Sea here defined by the following bounding boxes: 39.1 to 39.6 W, 60.55 to 60.7 S and 41.7 to 42.6 W, 60.45 to 60.8 S.
These bathymetry grids were compiled from a variety of multibeam swath bathymetry data acquired during 12 different cruises (see lineage). The data is available as grids of 50 m resolution in a GMT-compatible (2-D) NetCDF format using geographic coordinates on the WGS84 datum.
This grid was compiled in support of the ongoing monitoring efforts in and around Orkney Passage as part of the Ocean Regulation of Climate by Heat and Carbon Sequestration and Transports (ORCHESTRA) programme and preceding BAS NC projects, and the Dynamics of the Orkney Passage Outflow (DynOPO) project.
Funding was provided by the NERC grants NE/K012843/1 and NE/N018095/1 as well as national capability

Abstract:
Long-range airborne geophysical measurements were carried out in the ICEGRAV campaigns (2010-2013), covering hitherto unexplored parts of interior East Antarctica and part of the Antarctic Peninsula. The airborne surveys provided a regional coverage of gravity, magnetic and ice-penetrating radar measurements for major Dronning Maud Land ice stream systems, from the grounding lines up to the Recovery Lakes drainage basin, and filled in major data voids in Antarctic data compilations. We present here the processed line aerogravity data collected using a LaCoste & Romberg air-sea gravity meter S83 mounted in the BAS aerogeophysically equipped Twin Otter aircraft.
Data are provided as XYZ ASCII line data.

Abstract:
During the austral summer of 2004/05 a collaborative US/UK field campaign undertook a systematic geophysical survey of the entire Amundsen Sea embayment using comparable airborne survey systems mounted in Twin Otter aircraft. Here we present the portion of the survey covering the Pine Island Glacier basin led by British Antarctic Survey. Operating from a temporary field camp (PNE, S 77deg34'' W 095deg56''; we collected ~35,000 km of airborne survey data. Our aircraft was equipped with dual-frequency carrier-phase GPS for navigation, radar altimeter for surface mapping, wing-tip magnetometers, gravity meter, and a new ice-sounding radar system (PASIN). We present here the processed line aerogravity data collected using a LaCoste & Romberg air-sea gravity meter S83 mounted in the BAS aerogeophysically equiped Twin Otter aircraft.

Abstract:
Seventy-nine Antarctic ice core snow accumulation records were gathered as part of a community led project coordinated by the PAGES Antarctica 2k working group. Individual ice core records (kg m2 yr-1) were normalised relative to a reference period (1960-1990). The normalised records were separated into seven geographical regions and averaged together to form the regional composites. The seven geographical regions are: East Antarctica; Wilkes Land Coast; Weddell Sea Coast; Antarctic Peninsula; West Antarctic Ice Sheet; Victoria Land; and Dronning Maud Land. Full data description and methods can be found in Thomas et al., 2017.
This record also includes the original data, from which the composite records were produced.

Abstract:
Ground penetrating radar (GPR) data were acquired at a site on Antarctica''s Larsen C Ice Shelf, in November 2017. The acquisition was performed to measure radar anisotropy, a potential proxy for the stress condition in the upper ice shelf, following the calving of Iceberg A68 in July 2017. Two GPR common midpoint (CMP) gathers were acquired at Site S2, a site previously surveyed during the NERC funded NE/E013414/1 SOLIS project. These gathers were acquired first with GPR antennas extended in the flow-parallel direction (~ east), and then in the flow-orthogonal direction. The GPR system is a Sensors & Software pulseEKKO PRO, with 200 MHZ antennas. All acquisitions were performed by Dr Jim White (British Geological Survey) and Emma Pearce (University of Leeds, School of Earth and Environment), with support from BAS.
The data is part of the NERC RACE project, NE/R012334/1.

Abstract:
Two netcdf files are provided that contain daily precipitation amounts for January 1979 - July 2017 from the RACMO version 3p2 limited area, atmosphere-only model. The model is described in van Wessem, J. M., C. H. Reijmer, M. Morlighem, J. Mouginot, E. Rignot, B. Medley, and E. van Meijgaard, (2014) Improved representation of East Antarctic surface mass balance in a regional atmospheric climate model, Journal of Glaciology, 60, 761-770. The model was run over a 262 by 240 grid point domain covering Antarctica and parts of the Southern Ocean. The model was forced at the lateral boundaries by data from the European Centre for Medium-range Weather Forecasting (ECMWF) Interim reanalysis (ERA-Interim). Flags are provided for extreme precipitation events. A precipitation day was taken as a daily total of precipitation of greater than 0.02 mm. Extreme precipitation events were then taken as days when daily precipitation amount was greater than the 90th percentile of the daily precipitation values over the period 1979 - 2016.

Abstract:
A dataset of acclimation potential of terrestrial, freshwater and marine ectotherms across latitudes collected from the literature spanning the time period 1960 to 2015 with the aim to test the importance of physiological acclimation as a mechanism to buffer species against climate warming.
The projected rate of environmental warming is used to calculate how many years and generations acclimation capacity will afford each species before it will exceed its thermal maximum. Acclimation capacity, generation time, latitudinal range extent and projected rate of warming are then combined into an index of vulnerability. This data together with critical thermal maxima of the ectotherms are presented here.
