The Data Access Portal has information in 3 columns. An outline of the content in these columns is provided above. When first entering the search interface, all potential datasets are listed. Datasets are indicated in the map and results tabulation elements which are located in the middle column. The order of results can be modified using the "Sort by" option in the left column. On top of this column is normally relevant guidance information to user presented as collapsible elements.
If the user want to refine the search, this can be done by constraining the bounding box search. This is done in the map - the listing of datasets is automatically updated. Date constraints can be added in the left column. For these to take effect, the user has to push the button marked search. In the left column it is also possible to specific text elements to search for in the datasets. Again pushing the button marked "Search" is necessary for these to take action. Complex search patterns can be constructed by changing the operators used in the text field and prefixing words with '+' and '-' to indicate whether they have to be present or should not be present in the results.
Other elements indicated in the left and right columns are facet searches, i.e. these are keywords that are found in the datasets and all datasets that contain these specific keywords in the appropriate metadata elements are listed together. Further refinement can be done using full text, date or bounding box constraints. Individuals, organisations and data centres involved in generating or curating the datasets are listed in the facets in the right column.

This data set consists of continuous meteorological data, monthly climatological summaries, and upper air meteorological data for the NOAA/CMDL Pt. Barrow Observatory. Data include hourly average observations of air temperature, station pressure, and surface wind direction and speed. The data set also includes atmospheric radiation at the Barrow Observatory. Radiation data consist of hourly-averaged data for downwelling short-wave radiation, in watts per square meter. The radiation data were used to determine the snow disappearance date at Barrow on the basis of objective, radiometric measurements made over open tundra (<a href="http://www.esrl.noaa.gov/gmd/grad/snomelt.html">http://www.esrl.noaa.gov/gmd/grad/snomelt.html</a>).

The Rapid Update Cycle, version 2 at 40km (RUC-2, known to the Cold Land Processes community as RUC40) model is a Mesoscale Analysis and Prediction System (MAPS) data set that uses the Model Output Reduced Data Set (MORDS) version. This data set has been subsetted for use in the Cold Land Processes Field Experiment (CLPX).
During 2001-2006, 6 giant icebergs (B15A, B15J, B15K, C16 and C25) adrift in the southwestern Ross Sea, Antarctica, were instrumented with global positioning system (GPS) receivers, magnetic compasses and automatic weather stations (AWS), to monitor their behavior in the near-coastal environment and to record their exit into the Southern Ocean. The GPS and AWS data were collected on a 20-minute interval, Many of the station data timeseries are continuous for periods of up to 7 years, with icebergs C16 and B15J having the longest records.
The data is considered useful for examining the processes of iceberg drift (and other behaviors) on time scales that are shorter than what is possible through satellite image iceberg tracking. Data are available in comma-delimited ASCII format and Matlab native mat files.

This data set contains data from in situ meteorological measurements collected during the Soil Moisture Experiment 2004 (SMEX04) in Arizona, USA.
This data set comprises a 58-year record of daily extratropical cyclone statistics computed for the Northern Hemisphere. Cyclone locations and characteristics were obtained by applying the updated Serreze (1997) algorithm to daily Sea Level Pressure (SLP) data at six-hour intervals (Serreze and Barrett 2008). The SLP source data are part of the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) and National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) Reanalysis data set, an assimilation of various atmospheric data collected by a wide variety of sensors within a global weather model.
This data set contains measurements taken during the Soil Moisture Experiment 2003 (SMEX03) from sensors at Soil Climate Analysis Network (SCAN) stations located in Fort Reno and Little Washita, OK, USA.
